Horror movies.

I'm tired and I can't sleep, therefore, the obvious result is for me to make up a list of my favorite horror movies (and there aren't many.)

Firstly, I think that a horror movie should not be TOO bloody... (exception: Saw I). It should be scary enough that it creeps me out in certain points, and it needs to make me jump a few times. It also has to be re-watchable, have good acting, good special effects, good dialog, AND a good ending. Without these features, horror movies come off as cheesy and stupid. And if it doesn't end well, it ruins the entire thing. But here is my list:

Psycho.
This is probably my favorite horror film ever made. It meets all the criteria, and creeps the heck out of me every time I watch it, and I've watched it a lot. Some modern horror movie creators have tried to pull off "multiple personalities disorder" in their movies, but they just suck at it and it comes off as stupid. Bleh.

The Shining.
Two words: Jack. Nicholson.
Yeah, pretty sure no one else in existence could have done a better job than he did with that part. The lady is pretty annoying, but Jack Nicholson makes up for it. I always get so into this movie whenever I watch it.

Night of the Living Dead.
Okay, so parts of this one are a little cheesy. But the overall effect is great. THIS is a zombie movie that is actually tolerable. Shocking, I know.

Saw I.
This is a bloody gory horror movie, but there has to be at least one on the list, right? I'm not all into bloody movies though, and when he does the really gross stuff, I always look away. But the movie meets the rest of my criteria, therefore I enjoy it.

Insidious.
What? A RECENT horror movie that has good acting, dialog, special effects, appropriate creepiness, makes me jump a bunch, is re-watchable, and ends well? I didn't know they still made such a thing! This is the first new horror movie that I have seen in years that has actually been good. A lot of the newer ones end terribly, or they are good the first time but by the second time you see it, it has lost its edge (eg: A Haunting in Connecticut). I have now seen Insidious twice, and I can vouch for its ability to be re-watched. I highly recommend this film to anyone who enjoys horror movies but has not yet seen it. It is very good.

So, yeah. That's my list of good horror movies. Only five. Hm. My list of bad horror movies is much more extensive.
